Sermon Outline

It's not you. It's me.

Positional Health

Pastor Mark Johnson February 1, 2015

1 Corinthians 13:1-8

Last week we talked about the importance of core values.

On the roads and in life, there are others who have authority.

If you want to live in relational health, understand those in positions of authority in your life.

Key scripture on authority:Romans 13:17 (ESV)

In dealing with authorities there is one loophole.

Acts 4:18-19

What are some of the authorities in our lives?

  1. Government

  2. Parents -Ephesians 6:1

  3. Employers -Ephesians 6:58

  4. Pastors and Elders -Hebrews 13:1718 (ESV)

  5. Spouses -Ephesians 5:33 (ESV)

Until they marry, the highest authority in a child’s life after God is the parent.

A spouse carries unique authority. There is a balance of power.

Wives respect your husbands. Husband love your wife.

Selfishness destroys the balance of power.

Selfishness destroys good relationships any time the authority is based on conscience and not power.

Most people have authority, and are under authority.

Where I am under authority:

  1. Be subject to them.

  2. Treat them with honor and respect.

  3. Remember they see a bigger picture than I do.

Where I am in authority:

  1. Remember, I am a servant of God.

  2. I am here to bring peace.

  3. I am called to be just.

  4. I am their servant for good.

  5. Trouble comes when I mess up relational authority.

This weeks assignment.

  1. List the places you should have authority. Do you?

  2. Where are you under authority? How is your

relationship with them? If it is broken, what can you

    do to fix it?

  3. Read and apply the scriptures listed today in your

    notes.

  4. Read 1 Corinthians 13.

John 3:36
