Sermon Outline

Psalm 13:1-6

The “How Long” Psalm

Psalm 13 fits neatly into three, two-verse sections:

  1. David’s complaint,
  2. David’s prayer, and
  3. David’s salvation.

David’s Complaint

Psalm 13:1-2

Never be disrespectful to God.

2 Corinthians 10:5

1 Peter 5:7

The Great Creator cares for you.

David’s Prayer

Psalm 13:3-4

“Prayer is the turning point between mourning and rejoicing.”
- A. G. Brown

Philippians 4:6-7

When you begin your prayers with thanksgiving, it changes the way you pray.

Give light to my eyes: a return of vibrancy or vitality.

David didn’t want his enemy and his foes to win.

David’s Salvation

Psalm 13:5-6

God’s love never fails.

David was going to sing the Lord’s praise, because God had been good to him.

We’ve got to have good memories.

David’s “formula” from Psalm 13:

  1. Bring your complaint to God,
  2. Bring your petition to Him (pray), and
  3. Praise Him for His goodness.
