Weekend of Worship

"Fill the House"

Pastor Christian Ballenger

March 26 & 27, 2022

1Six days before the Passover, Jesus came to Bethany, where Lazarus lived, whom Jesus had raised from the dead. 2Here a dinner was given in Jesus’ honor. Martha served, while Lazarus was among those reclining at the table with him. 3Then Mary took about a pint of pure nard, an expensive perfume; she poured it on Jesus’ feet and wiped his feet with her hair. And the house was filled with the fragrance of the perfume. [John 12:1-3 NIV]

Main Idea:  When we gather in Jesus' honor, the fragrance of worship should fill the house.

1Make an altar of acacia wood for burning incense. . . 7Aaron must burn fragrant incense on the altar every morning when he tends the lamps. 8He must burn incense again when he lights the lamps at twilight so incense will burn regularly before the Lord for the generations to come. [Exodus 30:1, 7-8 NIV]

HOW TO FILL THE HOUSE:

  • SACRIFICE - Offering that which is precious: Then Mary took about a pint of pure nard, an expensive perfume . . . [John 12:3a NIV]
  • HUMILITY - Lack of regard for oneself before Christ: . . . she poured it on Jesus’ feet and wiped his feet with her hair. [John 12:3b NIV]
  • FREEDOM - Unreserved in demonstration:
1Six days before the Passover, Jesus came to Bethany, where Lazarus lived, whom Jesus had raised from the dead. 2Here a dinner was given in Jesus’ honor. Martha served, while Lazarus was among those reclining at the table with him. 3Then Mary took about a pint of pure nard, an expensive perfume; she poured it on Jesus’ feet and wiped his feet with her hair. And the house was filled with the fragrance of the perfume. [John 12:1-3 NIV]
