Sermon Outline

Psalm 119:1-3

The durability of the Bible is a testament to its divine protection.

Attempts at Christianity’s destruction have existed from the birth of the church in Acts.

Diocletian, who ruled the Roman Empire from 248-316, ordered that all Christian churches be “leveled to the ground and the scriptures burned by fire.”

One of the amazing stories of the durability of the Bible took place during the French Enlightenment of the 18th century.

Voltaire predicted that scripture and Christianity would be completely wiped out within 100 years.

Yet within 100 years, the very publishing house Voltaire used to publish his critiques was being used instead to print copies of the Bible

The Geneva Bible convention stacked piles of freshly printed Bibles in Voltaire’s old flat

The Bible is, by far, the best-selling book of all time.

The Bible is durable because it is the Word of God.
The Bible is lasting because God’s hand of protection is over it.

The Word is not only durable physically, but it is durable spiritually

Psalm 119 concentrates on God’s Word

Psalm 119:1-3

Those who walk in obedience to the Word are empowered by God.

How are we to know how to do that?

The enemy uses our culture to confuse us.
The enemy uses our sin nature to seduce us

How do we stay the course?

Psalm 119 reminds us that the Word is our foundation

Psalm 119:105

The Word anchors us to truth.
Psalm 119:104

My heart and my decisions will be anchored somewhere.

Without the Word, they are anchored in my feelings.

My feelings are tied to my sin nature.

As I study the Bible I become anchored in the Word

If I read and pray, the Word will build in me the nature of the Spirit

Psalm 119:11-12
