Sermon Outline

Key Point: The Lord is our Righteousness.

5 “For the time is coming,”says the Lord, “when I will raise up a righteous descendant fromKing David’s line.He will be a King who rules with wisdom. He will do what is just and right throughout the land. 6 And this will be his name: ‘The Lord Is Our Righteousness.’ In that day Judah will be saved, and Israel will live in safety.” (Jer. 23:5-6, NLT)

Key Point: No One is Righteous.

There is no one righteous, not even one… (Romans 3:10, NIV)

It’s your sins that have cut you off from God. Because of your sins, he has turned away and will not listen anymore.(Isaiah 59:2, NLT)

… the wages of sin is death…(Romans 6:23a, NIV)

Key Point: Jesus Christ, The Righteous One.

For Christ also suffered once for sins, the righteous for the unrighteous, to bring you to God.(1 Peter 3:18, NIV)

God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.(2 Corinthians 5:21, NIV)

This righteousness is given through faith in Jesus Christ to all who believe. (Romans 3:22a, NIV)

Key Point: Our Response to Righteousness

1 Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus, 2 because through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit who gives life has set you free from the law of sin and death. 3 For what the law was powerless to do because it was weakened by the flesh, God did by sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh to be a sin offering. And so he condemned sin in the flesh, 4 in order that the righteous requirement of the law might be fully met in us, who do not live according to the flesh but according to the Spirit.(Romans 8:1-4, NIV)
