Sermon Outline

In the Psalms of David, we see his heart and his faith. We also see the glory of God and His nature.

Have you ever had people slander you?

This Psalm is David’s call to God in a time when he is being slandered.

Jesus addresses this in the Sermon on the Mount.

Matthew 5:11-12

One note on the Psalms says this, the dominate message of the Book of Psalms is twofold:

  1. God is good.
  2. Life is difficult.

How do you handle a false accusation?

This Psalm does not tell the exact details of the situation, but most believe it was written in the time David was in exile from Jerusalem, fleeing Saul.

David had done all he could do to prove his loyalty to Saul; he had the opportunity to kill Saul and refused.

It must have been a painful and confusing time to David.

Some in Saul’s camp had seized the moment to feed the hatred of Saul and to build their status to Saul.

Psalm 7:1-2

David cries out to God; in you do I take refuge.

In many situations, David leans on God’s mercy and forgiveness but now lies are being told and he leans on his innocence.

Psalm 7:3-5

This is one of the dangerous prayers in the Bible.

Now, we get some insight into David’s view of a righteous God.

David appeals to a God of righteousness to help him before his people.

David says in this situation he is righteous like God, so God defend righteousness.

Psalm 7:6-10

In David’s sin he prays that God will not judge him in anger or wrath.

He believes God has appointed judgment to all liars and destroyers.

Let the witnesses of the earth see the protection of God for the righteous and the judgment of God for the wicked.

Let the wicked fall and the righteous be established.
