Pentecost Sunday

Acts 2:1-12

Jesus has given His followers a mission: Go to all the nations and baptize them and make them disciples

We have the same mission today.

Jesus knows that with everything they have been taught, with all they have seen and witnessed, they still don’t have the ability to do what they are called to do.

He told them that when He leaves, a comforter, counselor, and teacher will come and be with them.

Now He tells them clearly, “Don’t leave Jerusalem until the promise of the Father is fulfilled and you receive power from the Holy Spirit.”

1 Corinthians 12-14 series: The Holy Spirit

In our time, much has been taught about the present-day role of the Holy Spirit.

What I want to do today is to ask you to examine what you believe about the work of the Holy Spirit, and judge that stance on the Bible.

There are actions done in the name of the Spirit that are not biblically supported. There is a denial of the working of the Spirit that has no basis in the instruction of the Bible.

Here are a few scriptures to read. Let’s be biblical in our thinking.

Acts 1-2, Matthew 3:11, John 14:15-18,
John 16:5-15, Acts 4:23-31, Acts 10,
Acts 13:1-3, Acts 19:1-7, Romans 8,
1 Corinthians 12-14, Galatians 5:16-26,
Ephesians. 5:15-21, 1Thessalonians 5:19-21

Study these passages carefully and let the Lord speak to your heart.

As we look back on Acts 1 we discover that Jesus knew they needed power. The Holy Spirit was coming to give them power. For what? To be His witnesses.

  • Power over fear of the world.

  • Power to speak the Word so it penetrates.

  • Power over discouragement
    1 Corinthians 14:4

  • Power over temptation

Are you walking in the victory offered by the Holy Spirit?

The Holy Spirit is active in those who open their lives to Him. He will give you strength, wisdom, and victory.

This week in your appointment with God, read these passages and invite the Holy Spirit to reveal to you His way and to do His work in you.
