The Authoritative Nature of Biblical Faith
Matthew 8:23-27

1. Following is essential to discipleship, v. 23

John 6:60-69

“Zoe is the absolute fullness of life; life real and genuine, a life active and vigorous, devoted to God, blessed, in the portion even in this world of those who put their trust in Christ, but after the resurrection to be consummated by new experiences, among them a more perfect body, and to last for ever."

2. Faith makes it possible to live out of sync with your circumstances, v. 24-25

James 1:2-4

Four things about storms…

a) storms alter the way we relate to God, v. 25
b) storms speed us up emotionally, v. 25
c) storms expose the relationship of fear and faith, v. 26
d) storms are the context of discipleship, v. 26

Proverbs 4:7

3. Fear is an invitation to a transformed view of God, v. 27

Mental worship…

1. Is your life shaped more by consequences (negative) or experiences (positive)?
2. Do you relate to God on the basis of what you need Him to do or as you know Him to be?
3. Does your response to the storms in your life convict anyone?
4. When going through a difficult time, do you experience God to be helpful?
5. Can you see fear changing the way you see God? If so, how?
