Sermon Outline

1.  God’s revelations often produce mixed emotions!

2.  In God’s Kingdom death is often the necessary prelude to life. (John 12:24; 1 Thessalonians 5:10)

3.  Once we know Jesus we have to die to those sins that prevent us from living as He intended. (Romans 6:13; Colossians 3:5; 1 Peter 2:24)

4.  The fear of dying to our sin will lead us to hold onto things that feel like lifelines but prove to be chains. (Romans 7:15-24)

5.  Before we can experience the freedom God intends, we must die to our own ideas of what freedom is and what will bring it about. (Proverbs 14:12)

6.  Until we allow God to subdue the rebellion in our hearts, we will never be truly free.

7.  Before we can experience the freedom God intends, we must die to our tendency to impose our will upon God.

8.  Before we can experience the freedom God intends, we must die to our unfounded confidence in ourselves. (Proverbs 16:18; John 15:5)

9.  Before we can experience the freedom God intends, we must die to the fear we won’t find a suitable replacement for our sin.

10.  We carry our worst enemies within us.

11.  Since we play a part in our unrest, we can play a part in our freedom!
