James 1:2-4
Tonight we will be asking a tough question: How do I respond to painful situations?

Responding with Faith

Three types of crisis

  • Self-inflicted

  • Others-inflicted

  • Natural crisis

Pitfalls of crisis:

  • Blaming God

  • Getting angry at God

  • Cutting yourself off from others

Trials Increase our Dependency on God

1 Corinthians 10:13
God allows trials in our lives to remind us of our dependency on Him.

You will know them by their fruit.

  • Luke 6:43-45

  • Trials and hardships have a way of showcasing the fruit in our lives.

Counterfeit faith – signing up vs. Showing up

  • This is not a great time to fake it till you make it.

  • Good intentions

  • High moral standards

  • A fast start

Spiritual Boot Camp

These spiritual muscles build upon each other.

1. Obedience

Proverbs 3:5-6

We learn obedience through the valleys and trials of life.

2. Perspective

2 Corinthians 4:16-18

Perspective is often seen on the backside of crisis.

3. Endurance

Romans 5:3-5

4. Confidence

Hebrews 11:1

5. Courage

“Confidence to the max in the face of fear is what we call courage” – Larry Osbourne
