Sermon Outline

This is What We Do: We Give Generously!
Pastor Clark Pfaff

Outline

8 “You have heard the law that says the punishment must match the injury: ‘An eye for an eye, and a tooth for a tooth.’ 39 But I say, do not resist an evil person! If someone slaps you on the right cheek, offer the other cheek also. 40 If you are sued in court and your shirt is taken from you, give your coat, too. 41 If a soldier demands that you carry his gear for a mile, carry it two miles. 42 Give to those who ask, and don’t turn away from those who want to borrow. (Matthew 5:38-42, NLT)

Key Point: He wants something for us(not from us)

21 Jesus answered, “If you want to be perfect, go, sell your possessions and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me.” 22 When the young man heard this, he went away sad, because he had great wealth(Matthew 19:21-22, NIV)

Key Point: He wants to change the world

19 “Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moths and vermin destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. 20 But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moths and vermin do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. 21 For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. (Matthew 6:19-20, NIV)

Key Point: He wants to free us from greed

“No one can serve two masters. Either you will hate the one and love the other, or you will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money.” (Luke 16:13, NIV)

Give

It is more blessed to give than to receive.(Acts 20:35b, NIV)

Save

Wealth gained hastily will dwindle, but whoever gathers little by little will increase it. (Proverbs 13:11, ESV)

Just as the rich rule the poor, so the borrower is servant to the lender. (Proverbs 22:7, NIV)

Live

17 Teach those who are rich in this world not to be proud and not to trust in their money, which is so unreliable. Their trust should be in God, who richly gives us all we need for our enjoyment. 18 Tell them to use their money to do good. They should be rich in good works and generous to those in need, always being ready to share with others. 19 By doing this they will be storing up their treasure as a good foundation for the future so that they may experience true life.(1 Timothy 6:17-19, NLT)
