Sermon Outline

Matthew 5:27-30

What is heart adultery?

Jesus teaches that lust is a matter of the heart.

Jesus is talking in a time when adultery was punishable by stoning.

These passages are primarily aimed at men.

What do we learn? Lust is an issue of the heart.

Jesus lays the lust issue at the feet of men.

Today we are told that we are a make-up of our urges that cannot be restrained.

The Bible teaches that one of the fruits of the Spirit is self-control.

Ephesians 5:3-5

Ephesians 5:17-18

What is Jesus’ answer to the lust trial? “If your eye causes you to sin, tear it out and throw it away. If your right hand causes you to sin, cut it off and throw it away.”

The eye is the door to the heart. Cut off the vision.

Job 31:1

In 2 Peter He talks about godless men “with eyes full of adultery, they never stop sinning.”

This is a call to recognize the need for restraint of passions.

The right hand is symbolic of what man reaches out with to act.

The Kingdom of Heaven is not a kingdom of lust.

Are we really new creations?

When we silence the voice of lust, we build the bond of honor and love.

Today’s Prayer:

  • God, do I have a lust problem?
  • Are there thought processes that need to be changed?
  • Do I need to bring accountability into my life?
