Sermon Outline

Philippians 2:8-11

Who or what is lord of your life?

If you want to know a person’s lord look at their actions.

Who or what do you serve?

As Christians, we know the answer so well we can say it without real self-examination.

As Americans we have a hard time with the full concept of lordship.

A lord is the ultimate authority. In true lordship it doesn’t just have the final say. It has the first say, the complete say, and the all-areas say.

The challenge this Christmas season is to think about all the good things Jesus does for us.

We don’t want to make you feel bad right before Christmas, but we are not working right.

We need an expert. We need the Lord.

The good news is Jesus is the perfect expert. He knows just what we should do.

All we have to do is ask Him and let Him be Lord of our lives.

There are two keys to knowing and hearing God:

  • Prayer
  • The Word

We were made from the beginning to walk with God, but were cut off from that communion. We were cut off from the source of spiritual health.

We are broken and so is everyone else.

The law points that out to us, but it can’t fix us. We need the Lord.

This is why we should celebrate Jesus.

Luke 4:18-19

We need the Lord. We need the One who has the first say, middle say, and final say.
