Matthew 6:19-21

The Sermon on the Mount teaches us how to live faithfully in the kingdom of God.

Jesus turns to the spiritual condition of the heart.

In the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus gives us a spiritual heart test.

Matthew 6:19-21

What is your treasure?

Your treasure is what you love the most. It controls your decisions and brings you satisfaction.

Pleasing God has to be your greatest treasure.

You can best serve your family and others by keeping God as your treasure and serving Him first.

Jesus uses the word “treasure” because it could be anything. It is what we put first.

Matthew 6:24

What lasts for eternity? What can you store up in heaven? How do you do that?

Here is the first heart check:

  • Where is your treasure?
  • What determines your actions and values?
  • Does it rust or will it last for eternity?

For your heart to be right, your treasure needs to be right.

Your treasure must be loving God and serving His kingdom.
