What does this passage mean and what was Jesus saying?

Matthew 5:31

Jesus was pointing to the circumstances of that day and setting them in ethical order.

Divorce for men was a simple process.

Matthew 19:3-9

Divorce played out in a very negative way toward women.

Jesus is talking to men telling them that they had no such right in His kingdom.

The primary lesson is that God’s intent for marriage is for it to be healthy and last a lifetime.

Ephesians 5:22-24

Ephesians 5:25-30

Jesus is so good to us that we should want to submit to Him and live to please Him.

Today’s Prayer

  • God, is there any place I need to repent in my actions?
  • Are there words I need to start saying more often?
  • Single? Ask what needs to develop in my life before I will be ready for a permanent relationship.
