Who Is Our Father?

God is bigger than we can comprehend

The most important thing I can teach you about prayer, your fulfillment in prayer and your fruitfulness in prayer, will not be dependent on how much you know about prayer, but how much you know about God.

The more you understand God, the better your prayers are going to be, the more effective they'll be, the more fulfilled they'll be, and the more satisfying your prayer life will be.

We will never know all there is to know but we can be growing! Growing is liberating.

Where do we learn about God?

  • We learn about God in creation.

You look around and God is revealed in creation.

As we grow in our understanding of creation we see the greatness of God.

The Bible talks about the spirit realm.
Romans 1:20

You can learn a lot about God just by looking at nature.
God likes variety.
God is organized.
God is creative.
God is powerful.

  • We see God’s greatness in Jesus’ incarnation
    John 1:14
  • We see God’s greatness in how the Holy Spirit moves.

God is so great that I'm never alone.

Psalm 139:7-12

What does this teach about prayer?

1) I look backwards to the cross.

The first part of prayer: Be thankful for what He has done.
Three truths that the cross reminds us of:

  1. How deeply God loves us

  2. How costly evil and sin are

  3. How completely we are forgiven

1 Peter 1:18-19

2) God says He is our Father.

Do you call God "Father" in prayer?

The way you see God will control your life more than any other thing in your life.
Romans 8:15-17

  • God wants my prayers to be personal! Abba! Dad

  • God wants my prayers to be passionate! Cry out!

He says, “When we pray, we cry, ‘Abba, Father.’”

If you don’t care much, why should God move for you?

  • God wants my prayers to be a partnership!
    By His Spirit

Romans 8:26-27

Open your spirit to the Holy Spirit when you pray.

3) Look inward.

Many fail right here. We refuse to let God heal us.

2Corinthians 13:5-6

Proverbs 28:13

If you'll learn to be intimate with God, it's going to give you the courage to have intimacy in any other relationship.

I do a backward look at the cross, I do an upward look at the Father's face, I do an inward look at Christ in me. Then, number four, the fourth dimension,

4) Ask the Holy Spirit to use you.

The most dangerous prayer you can pray is just two words:
"Use me."
Romans 6:13
