Sermon Outline

1. A testimony has a past, v. 1-5

“Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, 4 who comforts us in all our affliction, so that we may be able to comfort those who are in any affliction, with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God.” -2 Corinthians 1:3-4

“comfort”- to come along side and speak to

“affliction”- pressing together, pressure, distress

2. A testimony involves an encounter with God, v. 6-10

a) v. 8- Who are you, Lord?

“Afterward Moses and Aaron went and said to Pharaoh, “Thus says the LORD, the God of Israel, ‘Let my people go, that they may hold a feast to me in the wilderness.’” 2 But Pharaoh said, “Who is the LORD, that I should obey his voice and let Israel go? I do not know the LORD, and moreover, I will not let Israel go.” -Exodus 5:1-2

b) v. 10- What shall I do, Lord?

3. A testimony has help, v. 11-16

a) This is what has happened, v. 14

1) to know his will 2) to see the Righteous One 3) to hear a voice from his mouth

b) This is what needs to happen, v. 16

4. A testimony requires obedience, v. 17-21

“Up to this word they listened to him. Then they raised their voices and said, “Away with such a fellow from the earth! For he should not be allowed to live.” 23 And as they were shouting and throwing off their cloaks and flinging dust into the air, 24 the tribune ordered him to be brought into the barracks, saying that he should be examined by flogging, to find out why they were shouting against him like this.” -Acts 22:22-24

  1. Do you live as if God has a plan for your life?
  2. How do you answer the question, “Who is God?”
  3. In your faith journey, is there something you need to do but have been waiting?
  4. Do you have a testimony and if so, what is it?
  5. Who are the people who helped you when you came to faith and do they know how much God used them in your life?
