Context: 2 Samuel 11-12

Foundational Belief #1: The Nature of God

  • God is merciful. v. 1
  • God has steadfast love. v. 1
  • God is just in judgment. v. 4
  • God is the Restorer. v. 2, 7, 12, 14
  • God is the Creator. v. 10
  • God delights in humility. v. 5, 16-17


Foundational Belief #2: The Nature of Sin

  • Sin is transgression. v. 1, 3, 13

Foundational Belief #3: The Nature of Repentance

  • Repentance results in willing obedience. v. 12

Seven Elements of a Repentant Prayer
Hebrews 4:16  

  1.  Cry out to Father God. -Matthew 6:9 

  2. Trust in Jesus’ finished word on the cross and His advocacy for you. -1 John 2:1 

  3. Submit to the Holy Spirit. -John 16:8 

  4. Honestly confess and deeply repent. -Acts 3:19; 1 John 1:9 

  5. Humbly accept lessons and consequences of your sin. -Hebrews 12:6 

  6. Be encouraged from the great cloud of witnesses. -Hebrews 12:1 

  7. Commit to tell your story of repentance. -Psalm 51:13
