Sermon Outline

The Book of Hebrews: Promised Rest

Key Point: Don’t Miss it!

16 Who were they who heard and rebelled? Were they not all those Moses led out of Egypt? 17 And with whom was he angry for forty years? Was it not with those who sinned, whose bodies perished in the wilderness? 18 And to whom did God swear that they would never enter his rest if not to those who disobeyed? 19 So we see that they were not able to enter, because of their unbelief.(Hebrews 3:16-19, NIV)

See to it, brothers and sisters, that none of you has a sinful, unbelieving heart that turns away from the living God.(Hebrews 3:12, NIV)

Key Point: The Promise Still Stands!

Therefore, since the promise of entering his rest still stands, let us be careful that none of you be found to have fallen short of it.(Hebrews 4:1, NIV)

For this good news—that God has prepared this rest—has been announced to us just as it was to them. But it did them no good because they didn’t share the faith of those who listened to God. 3 For only we who believe can enter his rest. (Hebrews 4:2-3a, NLT)

Let us, therefore, make every effort to enter that rest, so that no one will perish by following their example of disobedience.(Hebrews 4:11, NIV)

Key Point: Do Whatever it Takes!

12 For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart. 13 Nothing in all creation is hidden from God’s sight. Everything is uncovered and laid bare before the eyes of him to whom we must give account.(Hebrews 4:12-13, NIV)
