Lesson Six - Wisdom and Folly

* Tonight's speaker is reading from the NIV Bible

Our focus tonight is Wisdom vs. Folly

Folly has been defined as trying to make sense of life apart from God

Wisdom is respecting God and honoring Him by allowing His word to be the guidebook for your life.

Proverbs 6:1-5

We must…

  1. Master our finances. Proverbs 6:6-11

  2. Master our time. Proverbs 6:20-24

Let wisdom be so ingrained into the person we are that it guides our thoughts, actions, and words naturally.

When we pray “lead us not into temptation” we are praying for God to change our desires.

Proverbs 9:1-4a
Wisdom is inviting us to her house to show us the way to life, to be enjoyed as God intended

Following after wisdom brings rewards

Proverbs 9:7-12
This portion of scripture makes a clear distinction between wisdom and folly through how we deal with criticism

If we are wise, our response to criticism should not be to insult, or abuse, or hate.

Instead we must look to learn and seek to become wiser still.

But the wise seek to learn from the rebuke or instruction, even when it’s hard to do

Proverbs 9:10 tells us wisdom starts by fearing the Lord, respecting God, and allowing Him to be our foundation

The flip side of wisdom is folly.
Proverbs 9:13-18

If you accept the invitation to her house (folly), you will be partying with the dead

The question tonight is, “In whose house are you going to abide?”

There are two voices calling out to you: wisdom and folly.
