Sermon Outline

Matthew 16:15-19

How should we feel?
How should we act?
How should we think

These are the questions we wrestle with to become disciples of Christ.

The Church's job is not to affirm but to disciple us.

The Church is a body1 Corinthians 12:12-27
Paul wrote this letter to a local church.

1 Corinthians 12:7

The body is a fabulous metaphor:

  • The body does not consist of one part.
  • Each part of the body has its purpose.
  • God arranges and gifts as He will.
  • The parts of the body cannot just check out.
  • The members of the body should care for one another.
  • If one member suffers, we all suffer.
  • If one member is honored, all of us rejoice.

There is a Spirit-made connection; to break it is to break the will of the Spirit.

There is a great force in the unity of the body when it prays together, worships together, works together, cares together, and stands together. The power of God flows through that body for the good of all the members.

You will be stronger and healthier as you connect with the rest of the body.

The Church is called to show the world what Heaven will be like someday.
