Sermon Outline

Psalm 2:1-12

Psalm 2 is a Royal or Messianic Psalm.

Acts 4:25-26

The Messianic Psalms typically have two ways to be viewed:

  1. The story of David
  2. A prophetic story of the Messiah

The lesson is applicable to the Church in the Church age.

What we don’t know is when David wrote this Psalm. Was it before or after he became king?

What David experienced is a shadow of what the perfect Messiah would go through. We see what to expect in the age before Jesus reigns.

There will be those who are opposed to God’s plan.

David asks about this inPsalm 2:1-2.

David sees himself as the one anointed for that hour.

1 Samuel 23:17-18

It is here that we see the heart, or the understanding of the Kingdom, and faith of David.

Fighting the plan of God is both futile and dangerous.

The foundation of the attack on the anointed of God comes from the evil one who wants to destroy God’s plan.

David was the shadow of the promise, but Jesus would come as the fulfillment of the promise.

Psalm 2:3

The spirit of the enemy is against all restraint.

Matthew 11:28-30

The rules of the anointed bring rest to our souls.

The forces of the enemy seem strong and mighty. They are kings and people of influence.

Under the leading of the Holy Spirit, David writesPsalm 2:4-6.

Now we move further into the Messianic reign.

John 3:36

The Christian talks about being saved. What are we saved from? We are saved from the wrath of God.

Psalm 2:6

Jesus will return to the holy hill someday.

Psalm 2:7-8

This points to the final Messianic Reign in the Millennium.

Led by the Holy Spirit, David makes an appeal.

Psalm 2:10-12

The lesson for those seeking to have a God-pleasing heart is have faith in God in all things and at all times.
