Sermon Outline

Matthew 6:11-12

Draw the Circle points out that when we come to Jesus, we make Him Lord and give our lives to Him. This is called consecration.

Matthew 6:11

Bread is not a pleasure request; it is a need request.

We are taught to pray for the will of God and for our needs.

What is our attitude toward the gifts in our lives right now?

There is a big difference between the outlook of those with nothing and those with plenty.

When we have plenty, we need to be careful how we approach God.

When something is scarce in our lives and there is a need, we pray in faith.

When we have plenty, we should pray with gratitude.

Ways we give thanks to God:

  • Prayer
  • Worship
  • Tithing

These are all ways of saying, “We know You are the source of all we have.”

James 1:16-17

We pray for these things with a high level of “let your will be done on earth.”

A lack of gratefulness is an act of the sin nature and an act of pride.

The heart to pray for others.Matthew 6:12

What is in your heart?

Jesus tells us about His kingdom inMatthew 18:23-35.

The lesson is that it is dangerous in the Kingdom of God not to forgive others.

We get into the kingdom by being forgiven.

If we pray, “Forgive me as I have forgiven them,” how are we asking God to forgive us?

A lack of forgiveness is a sign of a heart not fully aware of the forgiveness it has been given and not fully healed by the love of God.

Prayer: God, I am not as moral as You are. I do not love as You love. Forgive me for holding my hurts and heal me so I can forgive as You forgave me. I recognize my sin against You is far greater than their sin against me.

A lack of forgiveness is a sign of not fully examining ourselves before a holy God.

The great news is God stands ready to forgive our sins against Him and to heal us from the suffering caused by the sins of others.
