Jesus and the Rich, Young and Successful

John 10:39–42 (ESV)

“What must I do to inherit eternal life?”

If you have asked it:

  • What is your conclusion?
  • How do you know you are right?

All people will have eternal existence, but not all will have eternal life.

The rich, young man had come to the right authority, but he is not going to like the answer.

Jesus asked the key question – “Why do you ask me about what is good?” – and it strikes to the heart of the issue: “Only God is good.”

Matthew 19:16–20 (ESV)

Now Jesus looks at him and instead of being frustrated He loves him.

The young man’s heart is attached to the wrong thing.

This young man recognized that the cry for eternity was unanswered in his spirit.

Is He just “Jesus the good,” or is He “Jesus the Christ?”

Jesus asks us all to lay down the one thing that is before Him. We think we cannot live without it, but we certainly won’t have eternal life with it.

Here is the command of Jesus: I will go to Jerusalem for you, but you must come fully to me.

We have to go to Jerusalem with Him
