Week Seven: Luke 4:14-44

Christ Rejected in Nazareth
Luke 4:14-30

Jesus quotes from Isaiah 61:1, stating His purpose on earth.

It was a messianic prophecy. Jesus stated that He was the One they had been waiting for.

They began to wonder about Jesus, saying, “Isn’t this Joseph’s son?”
This was the beginning of their rejection of Jesus.

Jesus rebuked them, knowing what was in their hearts.

Jesus showed His divine power by walking through their midst.

Jesus Continues His Ministry in Capernaum
Luke 4:31-32

Jesus taught as one with authority.

Christ’s Authority Over the Spiritual Realm
Luke 4:33-37 (Mark 1:21-28)

We must recognize a few things:

  • the location of the demon: in the synagogue

  • recognition and tone in the demon’s words

It is no secret that Satan wants to disturb the proper order of things. Satan has no business teaching scripture, for he will certainly alter the truth.
  • Jesus’ rebuke and the demon’s reaction

  • the response of the people

Christ’s Authority Over Physical Needs
Luke 4:38-41 (Mark 1:29-34 & Matthew 8:14-17)

When our families and friends are sick, we should be just like the disciples and appeal to Christ.

Jesus healed all of the sick and demon possessed that were brought to Him that night.
