The Reality of Resurrection

Pastor Mark Johnson

John 20:26-29

While they trembled behind locked doors, Jesus shows up.

Thomas was not there. Sometime during that week, someone told him the story. His reaction was not one of great faith.

John 20:24–25

Have you ever had something happen that shook your faith?

Now Jesus had predicted His actions, but they hadn’t grasped it.

They were sheep without a shepherd until the shepherd showed up.

Thomas had missed out on the first appearance, and when he heard about it, he scoffed.

Isn’t that how we feel?

Isn’t the natural response to say, “I am going to need more than that!”

But here is where I admire and learn from Thomas.

The next week, when they fearfully gathered together again behind the locked doors, Thomas was there.

This is such a great lesson. No one knows the hour Jesus is going to show up for you and give you everything you need.

You have to show up. Faith is showing up.

How many people have made this mistake?

Jesus said something so important to us:John 20:29 (NIV84)

The enemy will work to give you reason to doubt.

Jesus will give you enough to believe.

Jesus did not say, “You have seen me, that’s all you need.”

A week after they had seen Him, they were still locking themselves up.

Acts 1:3–8 (NIV84)

He knew they needed more than knowledge; they needed power.

The plan:
Step one - Hear and believe

Step two - Open your heart to the presence of God.

Prayer:
God, I know you are real, and I know you love me. In belief I wait on you.
