What We Believe: The Church

Matthew 16:18

The Church is the body of Christ, the habitation of God through the Spirit, with divine appointments for the fulfillment of her great commission. Each believer, born of the Spirit, is an integral part of the General Assembly and Church of the Firstborn, which are written in Heaven.

Since God’s purpose concerning man is to seek and to save that which is lost, to be worshipped by man, and to build a body of believers in the image of His Son, the priority for the Church is:

  • to be an agency for evangelizing the world,Matthew 28:18–20
  • to be a corporate body in which man may worship God, and
  • to be a channel of God’s purpose to build the body of saints being perfected in the image of His Son.Ephesians 4:11–16

The common Greek word for church is – ekklesia.

Ek – means “out of
klesia – means “called
Church – “called out of

The Church: people who have been “called out ofthe world to assemble for common spiritual purpose.

The Church is not a building.

There is the universal church – transcends time and space. You become a member when you are saved.
Acts 2:46–47

There is also the local church. A good portion of the New Testament is written to and about the local church.

The Church, as seen in the New Testament, is:

  1. The Bride of Christ
  2. The Temple of God -Ephesians 2:19–22
  3. The Body of Christ -Ephesians 4:15–16

The Church has a mission.

Evangelism
The Church is not some vague entity. The Church is made up of born again people mandated to work together to advance the Kingdom of God on the Earth, in the Heavens, and in their lives.
