THE HOLY SPIRIT - 1 Corinthians 14:26-40

1 Corinthians 14:26-40

Paul has been calling the church to order.
He calls for all to be involved.

1 Corinthians 14:33b-35

This seems to be quite clear, but is it?  This is a big controversy in the church world. Some yes and some no.

Key scriptures bring a simple statement to a Biblical concept.  Is this one?

A key scripture does not run contrary to the rest of scripture, but in unity with the rest of scripture.

Acts 1:12-14

Who all is there? The Apostles and the women.

Acts 2:1-4

Who was filled? All were filled. Was it only men?
Did it say only men? What does Peter preach just a bit later?

Acts 2:16-21

“Your sons and you daughters shall prophesy…
even on my male and female servants….
will pour out my Spirit, and they shall prophesy.”

Galatians 3:23-28 - Neither male nor female.

1 Corinthians 12:4-7

When one passage runs with scripture it may be a key passage. When a passages runs against the rest of scripture it is dealing with a specific issue.

We could use the argument that we have witnessed women with the gift of teaching.
Is that a good argument?
No, scripture always trumps experience.

Totality of the scriptural message always trumps a stand-alone passage. Context is important.

1 Corinthians 14:39-40
