So Much More than a Bible Study
Acts 2:42–47

The power of the gospel completely transformed the lives of the first believers in Jesus Christ. They are God’s examples to show us how we are to live in His supernatural community.

The first believers devoted themselves to:

  1. The message of the Apostles.Matt. 28:20; Acts 3:11–26; 5:21; 20:25–31;1 Cor. 2:21 Thess. 1:6
  2. Sharing everything. Lk. 12:32–34;Acts 4:32–37;Phil. 2:1–2; 4:14–19;1 Thess. 2:8
  3. Eating together and celebrating God’s goodness and deliverance. Isa. 25;Lk. 14:15Acts 27:351 Cor. 10:16–17; 11:17–34;Rev. 19:9
  4. Praying according to God’s mission for them. Acts 4:23–31;Eph. 6:18–20;Col. 4:2–6

The earliest Christians were living out the oneness that Jesus had prayed for (John 17:20–26). This unity did not come naturally.

Rather, through the indwelling Spirit whom they received when they believed the gospel, these Christ-followers were empowered to live in supernatural community. We too are a part of this same family.

Following their example, we are called to devote ourselves to the message of the Scriptures, to sharing all we are and all we have with each other, to eating in celebration of God’s salvation, and to praying according to His priorities.

As we live out this supernatural lifestyle, the Church will be built up and the world will be compelled to believe the message we speak through the community we display.

Live It Out

Have you ever experienced the kind of supernatural community described inActs 2:42–47? Where and when? What did it look like? How did it feel to take part in this kind of fellowship?

Are you currently devoting yourself to the patterns of supernatural community displayed by the early Christians?

If you are not, what priorities is God asking you to change today to make his Church a greater priority for yourself, for your family, and for those in your life who are watching your walk of faith?

Valley Bible Church is committed to helping you live in supernatural community through our Small Groups. Will you join us this season as we watch God do great works through us?

Maybe you have never experienced this kind of community before because you are not right with God. Living in God’s family is one of the greatest privileges every believer gets to enjoy.

Today you can join our supernatural community by turning from your rebellion against God and trusting in Jesus as your King and Savior!
