Not Afraid: Light Is Greater than Darkness
Pastor Clark Pfaff

These are Dark Times, but…

Key Point #1:

There is no darkness in God.

God is light; in him there is no darkness at all.
(1 John 1:5b, NIV)

Key Point #2:

Jesus is the Light of the world.

The Word gave life to everything that was created and his life brought light to everyone. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness can never extinguish it. The one who is the true light, who gives light to everyone, was coming into the world. (John 1:4-5, 9 NLT)

“I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness but will have the light of life. (John 8:12, NIV)

I have come into the world as light, so that whoever believes in me may not remain in darkness. (John 12:46, ESV)

Key Point #3:

We are called out of darkness.

If we claim to have fellowship with him and yet walk in the darkness, we lie and do not live out the truth. But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin.
(1 John 1:6-7, NIV)

The Lord is my light and my salvation— whom shall I fear (Psalm 27:1a, NIV)

Key Point #4:

We must let our light shine.

… you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light. (1 Peter 2:9, NIV)

“You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. 15Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. 16In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.”
(Matthew 5:14-16, NIV)

Reflection Questions:

Whose life can you shine the light of Jesus into?

What things can you do to shine the light of Jesus?
