Humility Defined
Cultural definition - “A modest or low view of one’s own importance

Our definition of humility describes someone without courage.

Biblical definition
Romans 12: 3

Galatians 6:3-4

  • It is not low self-esteem.
    - Daniel did not have low self-esteem when he approached the King.
  • It is not downplaying our accomplishments.
    - David did not downplay his accomplishments when he fought the giant.
  • It is not a lack of ambition.
    Matthew 20:25-28


Biblical humility is serving others
Daniel 2:48-49

Biblical humility is demonstrated through our relationships.

  • Today, we are far more prone to isolate than to infiltrate.
  • 1 Corinthians 5:9-13


Humility Demonstrated
Biblical humility treats everyone with respect.

  • Giving others respect does not mean compromising the standard God has set before us.
    Luke 6:27-36
  • We need to be genuinely concerned for their best interest.
    Daniel 4:18-19

    -  Our enemy’s prosperity does not mean our loss.


Humility Internalized
We need to move from a warfare mentality to a persuasion mentality.

2 Timothy 2:24-26

Warfare Mentality

  • Fights with those around them

  • Defends it’s position at all costs

  • Attacks when the opportunity presents itself


Persuasion Mentality

  • Inspires those around them

  • Points out different opinions with gentleness

  • Uses opportunities to build relationships 
  • Ephesians 6:12
