The Big Request

Matthew 20:25–28

On the road to Jerusalem they still miss the fact that the Grand Purpose of Jesus is to be a ransom for the lost and that theirs was to be a witness to His glory.

They are still thinking about Greatness in the lens of this world.

It is interesting, Jesus does not rebuke them for desiring a place of greatness.

In fact the bible encourages us to desire greatness in the kingdom.

Listen first to the words of Paul

Romans 2:6–10

Matthew 20:25–28

Jesus answers their big request by showing them the pathway to greatness.

Here Jesus tells us not to exercise authority as the great men of this world act.

Jesus is clear. This world has it wrong, He is showing a new path to greatness.

Greatness found in pleasing God and serving others is pleasing to God.

Jesus is saying to strive for greatness is good.
However Greatness is found in His example. The cost of true greatness is humble, selfless, sacrificial service.
