Sermon Outline

1. “Temptation may be an invitation to hell, but much more is it an opportunity to reach heaven. At the moment of temptation, sin and righteousness are both very near the Christian; but, of the two, the latter is the nearer.” (Charles Brent, missionary to the Philippines)

2. All sinful attractions are unnatural in that they contradict God’s intended moral order.

3. God can empower any believer to live righteously! (1 Corinthians 6:9-11; 10:13; Philippians 4:13; Colossians 3)

4. A call to celibacy isn’t a death sentence but a call to something noble! (1 Corinthians 7:8)

5. All persons outside heterosexual marriage are called to celibacy! (1 Thessalonians 4:3)

6. Our bodies are not our own! (1 Corinthians 6:19)

7. Cultures that reject God often make an idol of sexual freedom and fulfillment!

8. In idolatry, God is reduced while substitutes for God are inflated. In sexual idolatry, sexual impulse is seen as more powerful than God.

9. God is love and love is not unkind! (1 John 4:8,16)

10. Even though we’re all born with an orientation to sin we did not choose, the presence of God’s grace and power makes us all accountable for our conduct. (Romans 1:19-21; 6:17,18)

11. God didn’t promise an end to temptation; He promised a way of escape. (1 Corinthians 10:13)

12. Inclination doesn’t have to determine behavior; behavior can be shaped by God. (Jude 1:23-25)

13. When God requires the best He knows we can be - by virtue of His power - that’s not cruelty or injustice; it’s love. (Ephesians 4:17-24)
