Unity in the Body

1 Corinthians 12:11-27

The American church seems to have a hard time balancing individual responsibility and unity needed for the church to be the church.

1 Corinthians 12:11-13

This passage is dealing with the gifts of the Spirit. It is also talking to a local church that is full of division.

Paul presents ideas that challenge the American idea of individual happiness and purpose.

His illustration revolves around the idea of a body

We have been baptized into ONE BODY.

Lessons on the Unity of the Body:

1. You are part of a body
Real life and purpose comes through connection.

2. Each of us, as part of the body, has a unique purpose.

3. You have to learn how to work.

4. You are dead on your own.

5. Connection brings ability.

6. Some parts are simply to help other parts work.

7. The church is a body that needs each part to function.

8. God has ordered each part as He wills.

One body has one Spirit.

We are supposed to walk in the Spirit of Christ.
