Hearing the Intimate Voice of God

Psalm 46:1–11 (ESV)

God is omnipresent. He is everywhere all the time.

This speaks to one of the great revelations about God that makes Him impossible to understand.

It is not like God to swoop into big decisions.

It is in the little day-by-day decisions that get us in position for the big decisions.

Our call is to pay attention to His voice: to hear and obey.

What is our motivation for wanting to hear the voice of God in our lives?

There are a multitude of reasons:

  1. He loves you.
  2. Because you love Him.

Filters:

  1. God, is this prompting truly from you?
  2. Is the voice I am hearing scriptural?
  3. Is it wise?
  4. Is it in tune with my own character or wiring?
  5. What do the people I most trust think about it?

There has to be a standard that gives us clarity. If not, it just becomes what we feel or what we want.

The Word has to be our standard for faith and conduct.

We need to look with humility to the Word for revelation.

  1. In the issues of life, we look to the Word to speak to us.
  2. In the values of life, we look to God to speak to us.
  3. In the attitudes of life, we look to God to speak to us.
  4. In the decisions of life, we look to God to speak to us.
