Series Intro

Matthew 7:24–27 (ESV)

The pathway to being built to last does not begin with a set of rules to impose on our lives or a set of rituals that we must practice.

The person who is built to last is the person whose character has been transformed.

There is no clearer teaching on this point than what we find in Matthew 7 and what we call the Sermon on the Mount.

Jesus introduced a new way of living. At the end, He gives them a picture. It’s of two houses. Both look nice, but one is on sand and one on rock. When the storm comes, only one of them remains standing.

Safety was not in the hearing, or as we will see, even in the doing. Safety, being built to last, is in the being.

He starts with eight character traits that people in this new Kingdom possess.

Matthew 7:21–23 (ESV)

This is a total package of the character of the believer.

As we read them, the honest person has to ask “How do we rewrite the character imprinted on our hearts?”

Are we locked out?

No. He says “The builder can build upon the rock.”
Jesus is the rock.
