Sermon Outline

1. Scripture mentions two types of giving: offerings and tithes.

2. Under the Old Covenant Law God commanded Israel to tithe. (Leviticus 27: 30-34)

3. The tithe was a tax, and one of several.

4. The tithe is now obsolete. (Hebrews 8:13) We’re not a nation state under Law given through Moses, but the church under grace - given through Jesus. (Romans 6:14)

5. Under New Covenant grace believers desire to give because we have a new nature, a new perspective, and the Holy Spirit as our teacher.

6. Believers will desire to give all they can, to meet as many needs as they can, in order to glorify God as much as they can.

7. Grace giving allows for differing circumstances.

8. Giving is worship.

9. Belief and practice are the only cures for our worship problem!

10. We worship God because our hearts are assured of His goodwill toward us; we love because He first loved us; and give, because He gave.

11. The answer to “How much should I give” is ultimately “How much do you want to bless God and others, and be blessed yourself?”
