Description: is this passage simply telling about an event that happened?

Prescription: is this passage telling me/us to do something?

Bible Translations
Three Types of Bible translations

1. Literal

Word-for-word interpretation from original languages

Examples: NASB, ESV, KJV

2. Dynamic

Thought-for-thought interpretation

Romans 3:25 “whom God put forward as a propitiation by his blood…” (ESV)

Romans 3:25 “God presented him as a sacrifice of atonement…” (NIV)

Examples: NRSV, NIV, NLT

3. Paraphrase

Communicates general ideas in modern language

John 1:14 “The Word became flesh and blood and moved into the neighborhood”
