Sermon Outline

The Unshakable Hope of God's Promises
Pastor Clark Pfaff

And now it is because of my hope in what God has promised our ancestors that I am on trial today. (Acts 26:6, NIV)

Key Point: God is a Promise Maker and a Promise Keeper

Not one of the Lords good promises to Israel failed; everyone was fulfilled.(Joshua 21:45, NIV)

Key Point: God’s promises are meaningful.

a. Positive and negative promises

5 Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; 6 in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight. (Proverbs 3:5-6, NIV)

Jesus said to his disciples: “Things that cause people to stumble are bound to come, but woe to anyone through whom they come. 2 It would be better for them to be thrown into the sea with a millstone tied around their neck than to cause one of these little ones to stumble. 3 So watch yourselves.(Luke 17: 1-2, NIV)

b. General and specific promises

6 Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. 7 And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.(Philippians 4:6-7, NIV)

I will establish your royal throne over Israel forever, as I promised David your father when I said, ‘You shall never fail to have a successor on the throne of Israel.’(1 Kings 9:5, NIV)

Though the mountains be shaken and the hills be removed, yet my unfailing love for you will not be shaken or my covenant of peace be removed,”(Isaiah 54:10, NIV)

I will also make you a light for the Gentiles, that my salvation may reach to the ends of the earth. (Isaiah 49:6, NIV)

God will meet all your needs according to the riches of his glory in Christ Jesus.(Philippians 4:19, NIV)

Key Point: Will you build your life on God’s promises?

24 “Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. 25 The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock. 26 But everyone who hears these words of mine and does not put them into practice is like a foolish man who built his house on sand. 27 The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell with a great crash.”(Matthew 7:24-27, NIV)

And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age. (Matthew 28:20b, NIV)
