Covenants & Responsibilities

Matthew 5:43-48

In the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus spells out the culture of His Kingdom.

This series is an attempt to help us grasp biblical foundations of relationships.

The message of Jesus is to love everyone. You should desire and work for the best for everyone.

Matthew 7:12 – The Golden Rule

Genesis 4:8-16 – Cain and Abel

Luke 10:29-37 – Good Samaritan

Matthew 25:31-46 – Final Judgment

The Bible gives us a principle of generational responsibility.

We have been given a list of people we have a responsibility to love.

  • People at our church
  • Our children
  • The poor and people in need
  • Our friends
  • Our family
  • Our neighbors
  • Our enemies

Hebrews 13:1-2

It is a good standard to be aware of the people around you and to be sensitive to the Spirit of God.

Covenant relationships are a step deeper than responsibilities.

Covenant relationships are intentional and purposeful.

Types of covenant relationships:

  • Friendship Covenant – David and Jonathan
  • Church Covenant
  • Marriage Covenant

God is involved in all covenants.

Start by recognizing where you are and where you should be in covenant relationships.

All covenants have out clauses. Some just come to an end.

Jesus puts His Kingdom on our hearts and then tells us to live His Kingdom in the world.

At the foundation of all relationships we find either responsibility or covenants.

Let’s let the Lord speak to us about our relationships.
