Right Thinking for Troubled Times (1 Peter 5:5-14)

Theme: Elect exiles being warned suffering and persecution going as far away as the regions of Asia Minor. Christ is coming but His people are suffering. How should they be thinking in such times?

Introduction:

Many are prophesying the fall and doom of this country. Troubles are all around. Many of our brothers are being persecuted and killed in other countries.

The church in Iran has had to go underground. Arab world forbids open witnessing. China keeps oppressing the Chinese church.

Church in America is being told what we can say about alternate lifestyles and a younger generation cannot tell what the Bible says about anything. They just do not like those who say they believe it.

Peter is going to tell us how to “think right during these times.”

1. Think with Humility: Behavior of the humble (5-7)

Submits to God-ordained authority (5)
Serves with the apron of servant (5)
Stoops before God (5b-6)
Stays in reliance on God (7)
