Sermon Outline

1 John 1:8-9

Sin is a word that is often avoided.

Denial of sin is dangerous for society.

Denial of sin is a denial of God.

Denial of God is a denial of accountability.

Denial of accountability is license to do as I please.

Denial of sin eventually breaks down society.

Denial of sin brings us the very definition of sin:

Sin is man doing as he sees fit in his own eyes.

The world is a testimony to the truth about sin.

To deny the reality of sin is to deny that there is right and wrong.

To be wronged requires that there is another way things should have happened that is right.

God claims the right to set that boundary.

Sin is not only evident outside of us. Sin fights for control in our lives.

It is hard to imagine a world without sin.

With the sin nature still struggling within us, Heaven is hard to imagine.

The Bible points to and identifies sin so we can see how far we are separated from God, not just by our actions, but by our nature.

Just when it seems hopeless, we can hear the good news. Confess our condition, and Jesus will forgive us.

Be careful with this thought. What our sin nature does shapes the narrative. It’s not cheap grace.

Jesus came to forgive us of sin, but He also cleanses us from sin.

The true encounter with God’s Glory humbles us and convicts us.

We need to be serious about the cleansing work of Jesus in our lives.

Consider where pain is in your life.

Seriously, we need to get a new life.
