What We Believe - The Scriptures Inspired

The Bible is a miracle. This means it goes past man’s ability and has been established by the power of God.

Here is the baseline belief about the Bible:
The Scriptures, both Old and New Testament, are verbally inspired of God and are the revelation of God to man - the infallible, authoritative, rule of faith and conduct.

2 Timothy 3:12–17 (ESV)

2 Thessalonians 2:13 (ESV)

I. We believe the Bible is the verbally-inspired Word of GodThe word inspiration literally means “God-breathed.”

II. The Bible’s 66 books
A. 39 Old Testament books were established by the time of Jesus.
B. 27 New Testament books.

Four Tests for NT Scripture

  1. Apostolicity: Was the book a product of an apostle or a close associate?
  2. Universality:  Was the book widely accepted and used in churches?
  3. Contents: Did the subject matter of the book appear to be on a plan with known scripture?
  4. Inspiration: Did the book bear the special qualities that speak of divine inspiration?

They concluded that there were 27 writings that matched “all of the criteria.”

One of the questions about the Bible lies in accuracy of present-day versions.

We have more evidence on the accuracy of the Bible than any ancient world writings.

Historical discoveries continue to bring to light the legitimacy of the Bible and its claims.

III. Why We Believe in The Bible.
A. Historical support
B. Moral clarity
C. Spiritual revelation
D. Prophetic proclamation

All Scripture” - Scripture brings balance to itself.

God makes himself known to His creation:

  1. Through Creation God speaks
    -Psalm 19:1–3 (ESV)
  2. Through Conscience God speaks
    -Romans 2:14–16 (ESV)
  3. By the Bible God speaks
    - The Bible reveals that God has invaded the human situation, and acted to redeem us, and offered a way we can enter into that redemption. Nature or conscience do not make this clear.
