Sermon Outline

Philippians 4:4–9

Two truths:

1. God wants you to shine like stars in the night so people will be drawn to Him.

2. On this earth we face trouble.

We are to face our troubles with peace.

The breakdown of Philippians 4:4–9
Verse 4 – “Rejoice in the Lord.”
• This is supposed to be the fundamental mindset of all believers in all things.

Jesus is Lord of all.

Rejoicing is not an act; rejoicing is a state of understanding.

Verse 5 – “Let your reasonableness be known to everyone.”
Reasonableness and gentleness help us understand the mindset we are to carry in our issues in life.

Philippians 4:5 “Let your gentle spirit [your graciousness, unselfishness, mercy, tolerance, and patience] be known to all people. The Lord is near.

• Peace does not come with a bad attitude.

Remember The Lord is at hand.

Verse 6 – “Do not be anxious about anything.”
The key to setting our worry down is prayer.

Philippians 4:6

Prayer is recognizing God and His Lordship.

Supplication is presenting our needs to God.

Thankfulness is expressing and understanding that God loves us.

In the troubles of life a deep connection with God can develop.

If we get a touch of peace today but find ourselves anxious again tomorrow, we must go back to the well of prayer because we are not to be anxious about anything.

Verse 7 – God guards our hearts and minds.
This doesn’t make sense to those who do not know God.

Philippians 4:8-9
