Hearing God

John 10:1–5 (ESV)

We believe God wants a relationship with us.

That’s why the metaphors God uses to describe us and himself have to do with relationship.

Relationships are built on communication.

His sheep know his voice, and his sheep follow him.

This implies some important things – there are voices speaking to us.

Three main voices:
A. Your own voice
B. The enemy
C. The good shepherd

When you begin to talk about God speaking to you, there will be reactions.

How do you know the voice of the good shepherd?
1. You know what he has already said.
2. Who else could be telling me this besides God?

Most likely instead of it being a thundering interruption from heaven, it is a gentle nudge in your spirit.

Does this lead me…
• Towards pleasure or service?
• Towards ease or discipline?
• Towards waste or accomplishment?
• Towards pride or wisdom?

The voice of God impacts every area of your life.
