Sermon Outline

“Seeing then that we have a great High Priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our confession. For we do not have a High Priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but was in all points tempted as we are, yet without sin. Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need.”  Hebrews 4:14-16, NKJV

High Priests of Old:

The chief religious functionary in the Temple of Jerusalem, whose unique privilege was to enter the Holy of Holies (inner sanctum) once a year on Yom Kippur, the Day of Atonement, to burn incense and sprinkle sacrificial animal blood to expiate his own sins and those of the people of Israel.

The Standard Remains:

God’s view of sin is the same, and the role of the high priest is still paramount.

  • Better than Good. Great.
  • No stranger to the location(heaven).
  • No stranger to the Father.
  • No stranger to the struggle.
  • He’s been there and done that.

Our Reaction:

  • Boldness

Our Consequence:

  • Mercy and grace in time of help.
