Sermon Outline

Hebrews 11:5-6

Walking with God sounds great, but what happens when life throws us into situations we didn’t expect?

If we don’t handle desperation correctly, it won’t just be something we go through, it will be something that shapes us.

1 Samuel 18:6-11

Comparison has the potential to kill contentment.

We cannot allow fear to blind us to God’s presence.

Sometimes the most faith-filled response to desperation is not to fight, but to flee and trust God.

1 Samuel 24:1-7

Just because something seems like an open door doesn’t mean it’s the right one.

Sometimes small compromises reveal our level of trust, but taking matters into our own hands will always cost us more in the long run.

Circumstantial desperation reveals what we have been spiritually feeding on!

Three types of desperate prayers:
1. Prayer when we have lost everything else

  1. Prayer as our first response
  2. Prayer as a way of life

Psalm 63:1-4

Circumstantial desperation happens when life forces you to your knees.

Spiritual desperation happens when you recognize your deep need for God, even when life is stable.

Circumstantial desperation exposes what we have been spiritually consuming, but spiritual desperation reveals whether or not that food can truly sustain us.

Spiritual desperation is not just about seeking God, it’s about being satisfied in Him.
