Sermon Outline

1 Corinthians 15:14-19

According to Paul, everything hangs on the resurrection.

1 Corinthians 15:14

What happened that proved the resurrection is true?

  1. What happened to James, the brother of Jesus?
  • John 7:1-5
  • Next, we see all the brothers of Jesus in the upper room with the disciples.Acts 1:14
  • He wrote the book of James. In it he says, “James, a servant of God and of the Lord Jesus Christ.”
  • How did that change happen?
  • 1 Corinthians 15:3-7
  1. What happened to Paul?
  • The first picture of Paul is as a young Pharisee. We find him standing with people that are laying their garments at his feet as they turn to stone Stephen, the first Christian martyr. He approved this execution and others. He also threw some in prison and had them tortured and beaten.
  • Suddenly his life makes a complete 180° turn, and Paul becomes a follower of Jesus.
  • 1 Corinthians 15:8-10
  • What benefit was it to Paul to become a follower of Jesus?
  1. What happened to the disciples?
  • Of the twelve Jesus called to be His closest witnesses, one betrayed Him, one died an old man, and ten died as martyrs of the faith.
  • After the crucifixion, they had begun to scatter. Suddenly, they turned around and joined together.
  • Why would they sacrifice their lives?
  1. Where did the Church come from?
  • Up until 40 AD, there was nothing like the Church.
  • 1 Corinthians 15:1-11

Everything about our faith stands on the foundation of the resurrection.

The lives of the early Church shout to us, “He is risen.”
