Sermon Outline

Mark 4:35-41

Do you have peace in your heart? Do you have peace in your life?

When we unwrap this gift of God, one of the things He brings is peace.

This does not mean the believer’s life is absolutely trouble free.

Have you ever felt like God was asleep when you were in a storm?

Here are a couple of facts from this scripture:

  • They were not going down that night.
  • There are moments in our lives when all of our ability is not enough.

When they saw the moment, they did the right thing. They woke up Jesus.

How soon they were delivered depended on when they cried out to Him.

Someone was trying to subvert the plan of the Almighty God.

Going to Jesus unleashed the power of God in their circumstances.

Jesus gets up and says “Peace be still,” and the wind and waves obeyed Him.

On a calm sea with the breeze gentled, Jesus turns to them and says, “Why are you so afraid? Have you still no faith?”

Could it be that we find ourselves in storms just so Jesus can show us who He is?

Jesus didn’t rebuke them for coming to Him. He rebuked them for not having faith in Him.

Sometimes how long the storm lasts depends on how long we try to bail ourselves out, and when we finally give up and turn to Jesus.

This is the gift of Christmas. The peace of God is available to us.

Philippians 4 is a key passage in scripture in regard to peace. Philippians 4:4-7

  • Rejoice in the Lord always, even in the storm.
  • Be reasonable. Lack of reason destroys faith by building resistance.
  • Remember the Lord is at hand.
  • Don’t be anxious about anything…calm down.
  • Bring everything to God in prayer and with a thankful heart.

The Outcome –Philippians 4:7

The reason Jesus rebuked them was not for coming to Him, but for being afraid instead of having faith.

There are times when we call on God, but He lets the storms rage.  He guards our heart with peace.

If we are walking with Him, we will not miss our destiny.

Who gets to walk in peace with God? Luke 2:14

When in turmoil, the first thing to do is to ask the Holy Spirit, “Are you pleased with me?” Sometimes you have to ask others who love God, “Do you think God is pleased with me?”

Remember, all the wind and raging seas in our lives have to obey Him.
