Action step: Begin to journal. Pay attention to your self-talk, thoughts that are behind your actions and emotions, thoughts that reflect your beliefs. Read Psalm 139 and pray verses 23 and 24.

  1. Challenge Our Thoughts

Romans 8:5

Destructive mindsets have two main sources: our enemy Satan and our own flesh

James 4:7

Galatians 5:16-25

Action step: Challenge your thoughts by asking, “Do I need to resist Satan here? Do I need to call out my flesh? What attitude, thought, or action needs to be crucified?”

  1. Guard Our Thoughts

Proverbs 4:23

2 Corinthians 10:3-5

How do I guard my thoughts?

  • Welcome the Holy Spirit daily
  • Assert your spiritual identity

Action step: Surrender to Christ daily, be led by the Holy Spirit, and assert your spiritual identity.

  1. Nurture Our Thoughts

Consider the biblical principle of sowing and reaping.

Galatians 6:7-8

Let your primary resource for spiritual nurturing be reading and studying the Bible itself.

Hebrews 4:12

  • Read it (regularly)
  • Study it
  • Do a word study
  • Meditate on it and memorize it

If you make Bible study a habit, you will reap a thought life nurtured by the very Word of God.

Take advantage of secondary resources:

  • Devotionals
  • Blogs
  • Podcasts
  • Books
  • Commentaries
  • Music
  • Inspirational TV, Movies

Another way to nurture our thoughts: the habit of gratitude.

Philippians 4:4-9

Action step: Start a daily gratitude journal and meditate onPhilippians 4:4-9.

Conclusion

Mindset transformation leads to identity transformation.

Consider Saul of Tarsus who became the Apostle Paul.

One of the greatest demonstrations of a renewed mindset is fully adopting our new identity

2 Corinthians 5:17
